Genderful

This was the comics winner for this month's poll! Before I share it, let me tell you how it got made.

Recently, my local senator had a Town Hall meeting, and I was determined to go. I ran the gauntlet of Trumper protesters ranting about trans athletes (I recognized them from the library bomb threat back in October and waved to them), suffered through two plus hours of technological difficulties and clustering around smartphones in an overflow room, and then had to deal with one of my fellow citizens ranting about how she didn't want trans people around her children, we were just going to kill ourselves anyway.

The feelings that meeting gave me, I could not express. So I went home and drew all the genderful people who came before and alongside me, and I wrote their words instead--their joy, their survival, their power. And I converted that rage into fierce joy and shoved the local free libraries with them, and sent them to Florida, and disappeared into the night.

Mani Bruce Mitchel, an intersex person with breasts and beard, stands topless with the words I AM NOT A MONSTER written across the chest. A halo radiates.

Chiton

lb_lee: A happy little brain with a bandage on it, enclosed within a circle with the words LB Lee. (pester)
Rawlin: So... I'm a girl. For now. I'm going by she/her.

Okay, that's it. *flees*

Mori: GOOD JOB, SUGARCANE! YOU SOCIALED SO GOOD! *thumbs up*

Anyway, even though sewing is not my strength, I'm thinking of making her a chiton to wear. It looks so easy, even I probably can't fuck it up irrevocably, and Biff can sew, so I'm sure if he coaches (harangues) me, I can get through it. Since it hangs entirely from the shoulders, it wouldn't squish her fur to her body, and it's super breathable so she won't overheat!

Also I think she'll look cute in one. (I don't like looking cute or pretty myself, but I like it when she does, because she lights up like a sunbeam any time I tell her.)

I can probably just find some old sheet at the Goodwill or something. Then she'll have something in the vessel world too, if she wants. (I mean, she has black trunks and a sports bra now, but if she wanted something else.)
lb_lee: A magazine on a table with the title Nubile Maidens and a pretty girl on it. (nubile)
Rogan: Hey, so, a friend was asking for recommendations on erotic work to stockpile and activated my amateur semi-library tendencies. And I wrote off so many I thought I should make a post about it. All of these are available in hard copy, or at least WERE. (Making this list made me realize how many had gone out of print... lament.)

Feel free to ask if you want specific kinks or themes! Leave your own recommendations in the comments! Anon comments are turned on!
Hey kid, wanna buy a horny comic? *opens trenchcoat, displaying countless pockets filled with books* )
lb_lee: A frazzled-looking rat, glaring out and declaring in huge letters, DOOM. (ratdoom)
Folks asked for it, so I got the following list from [personal profile] marzicastella about things to do in prepapration for the new administration. We have added a few things, but it was [personal profile] marzicastella who did the real work! Thank [personal profile] marzicastella!

Preparation! )
lb_lee: a black and white animated gif of a pro wrestler flailing his arms above the words STILL THE BEST (VICTORY)
Mori: Well, today sure been exciting and I ain't even hit the marching band festival yet! (That... might have to wait til tomorrow. Too much excitement.)

I stayed up till 3 AM working on Madgic #4--not advisable, but deadlines are deadlines and that book needs to be done, printed, and on a book fair table in two weeks. I was like, it's fine, Saturday I can be nice and chill and just catalog for the sci-fi library all day, give my neck and shoulders a break.

That is not how my Saturday went.

Transphobia, bomb threat, and local politics behind the cut. Hold my lunch, MY LIBRARY NEEDS ME! )

Man, and this ain't even getting into the shit me and Rawlin done in headspace at 3 AM! Today is really shaping up to be a banger! But at least now I'm safe in the sci-fi library where nothing worse is going to happen besides Harlan Ellison being rude to some guy.
lb_lee: A hand wearing a leather fingerless glove, giving the finger to the camera. (ffffff)
So, I'd heard of Laura Jane Grace and her band Against Me! way back in the tumblr days, but I'd kinda bounced off her. (Even though... trans punk rock? Why wouldn't I love that?)

Well, Mori rediscovered her, went, "MY PEOPLE!" and it turns out we just really like her energy in live performance a lot better! And archive.org has a bunch of 'em! So here's some of our favs!
  • her 2017-10-14 performance at Brooklyn Steel of Transgender Dysphoria Blues (yes, this one specifically, due to her patter at the start)
  • her 2022 performance at August Hall, covering the Mountain Goats' The Greatest Death Metal Band from Denton (which is just a great song in general, but this one involves the hilarious thing at the end of a girl in the crowd screaming, "Can I throw my bra?" and Grace replying, "You... you don't ASK to throw your bra, you just throw your fuckin' bra!")
  • her August Hall 2022 performance of So Long, Farewell, Auf Weidersehen, Fuck Off. (Her recorded version just didn't give me the same feel at all. The live version is full of FUCK YOU rage.)
  • her 2021 performance of "Black Me Out" where the whole crowd is singing along with her and screaming that they love her. (I'm going to have to link the whole set because archive.org is having problems and I can't pull up the link of the song right now.) (This song is probably the most Mori song ever made.)

She's on bandcamp, both as herself and Against Me! so toss her some bucks if you like her work! We also really love her songs "Dysphoria Hoodie," "True Trans Soul Rebel," and her performance of "Androgynous" with Joan Jett and Miley Cyrus!

Alternate Drag zine by Donnyclaws: (2022) "The alternate underbelly of the drag world and its importance, a personal zine and critique of Drag Race's legacy and the importance of drag monsters. " (on tumblr here and on itch.io here; pretty sure not screenreadable)

"Monsters of Our Own: Monster Symbolism in the Trans Community," by Lucian Clark (2016): interviews with monstery trans folks.

My Monster Boyfriend by Lindsay Ellis (2018): A Youtube video about the racial, gender, and queercoding in monsterhood, focusing more on movies.

Ode to Monsterfucking comic by Jenna Miles (2021): exactly what it says on the tin. Seems to be unavailable on the Internet; I got a physical paper copy at a library zine fest and am considering textually transcribing it for posterity.

Queer Code zine by Panic Volkushka (2016): an exploration/rant about "queer coding" in horror film and canon queers vs. monster queers in pop culture. (on tumblr here and on Etsy here; not screenreadable)

The Shape of Water: Falling in Love with Monsters, by LaRon Readus (2018). " I discuss Guillermo Del Toro's latest movie "The Shape of Water," and why there are so many people of color and members of the LGBT+ community that find themselves smitten by monsters and monstrous creatures in monster movies and media in general."

We Are All Monsters comic by Phineas Klier (2020): "A comic I created in April and May about why LGBTQ+ individuals often feel attracted to the monster in media." (not screenreadable)

this twitter thread by Ezra Rose (2022): " can't stop thinking about the way medieval antisemitism (which is absolutely the blueprint for modern antisemitism) connected Judaism to both illness/disability & also to gender deviation"
